I am convinced that human life is filled with many pure, happy, serene examples of insincerity, truly splendid of their kind-of people deceiving one another without (strangely enough) any wounds being inflicted, of people who seem unaware even that they are deceiving one another.

About This Quote

When Jean-Paul Sartre wrote, “I am convinced that human life is filled with many pure, happy, serene examples of insincerity, truly splendid of their kind-of people deceiving one another without (strangely enough) any wounds being inflicted, of people who seem unaware even that they are deceiving one another.” He was, perhaps, less than enthusiastic about the insincerity in the world. The idea of people who do not know they are lying is quite odd to most people. Some claim that it is impossible for people to not know when they are lying. However, there are many times when we actively choose not to see what is right in front of us.

We can choose to believe in things that do not exist or that cannot be proven. We can choose to abandon ourselves to our desires and still pretend that things are happening in a certain way when they really aren’t happening at all.
